Waiting at the airport I was going over my lie, but I was waiting so damn long I had the shit down in the hour I had been waiting.

“Baby, I really was playing with you. I ain’t fucking nobody but you.” It sounded believable to me, but I already knew what to do if shit started going south. All I had to do was change the subject on her ass.

But as I waited at the curb with my bags, my phone going off with my boy Paul.

“Whattup, P. What you calling so early for?” The sun was barely up, and here he was ringing my line.

“Man, it went down at the club last night. I didn’t even get to see you before shit got crazy.”

“Word... I didn’t even make it.” Paul got quiet.

“But I saw you leave with Kisha.” I had to laugh. Paul was crazy as a motherfucka. Always getting way too drunk and thinking he saw something that never happened.

“Naw, nigga, was you drunk?”

“Naw, man. I came in and they started shooting. I saw Kisha run out with a nigga, and it was a dude behind them that looked like you.” I ran that through my head thinking of who she could have been with that looked like me.

“It might have been her cousin or somebody, but I was out of town. I’m at the airport now just getting back.”

“Shit, well. Let me mind my business then cause... You know.” I was getting mad already.

“Spit the shit out, P. What the fuck you talking about?” Paul was my eyes and ears on the street, usually when I was out of town I let him know so he could watch after Kisha and the boys. But yesterday I had to go right back out that I didn’t even have a chance to let my boy know.

“Well, I stopped by the house after the club. I saw you and Kisha going inside kissing, so I left it alone.”

“What you mean we were kissing?”

“I thought it was you.” I breathed deep, exhaling slow and trying not to fucking explode. “Somebody was all over her ass. I saw they car too. It was one of those cars like your brother got.” I was trying to think of what car my brother had.

“The Monte Carlo?”

“Naw, man. The other one.” Paul had to be on some bullshit. I didn’t know what car he was talking about.

“You sure, P, cause if you bullshitting.”

“Man, I put that on my kids.” Paul didn’t put shit on his kids if it wasn’t the truth.

“So you telling me my wife cheating on me, Paul?”

“Man... All I’m saying is I saw what I saw.” I was adding shit up in my head, trying to figure out what the fuck was going on. “I was just calling to see if you was cool.” Kisha was pulling up just in time.

“Let me hit you back, dude.” I hung up getting in the car with one question on my mind.

“Hey, baby. I didn’t think you were coming back this soon.
